Zamioculcas | Indoor Plant

If you’re starting with houseplants or need low-maintenance office decor, consider the ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia), also known as the Eternity Plant. It’s an indoor tropical with upright growth, shiny oval-shaped deep green leaves, and a reputation for being hardy. However, be cautious as ZZ plants are toxic to both people and pets.

LIGHT

ZZ plants are adaptable to various lighting conditions, including low light, but thrive in bright, indirect light. Insufficient light may cause them to become leggy. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can damage their leaves.

WATER

ZZ plants grow from water-storing rhizomes, making them highly drought tolerant. Let the soil dry completely between waterings. Deep watering every few weeks is usually enough, as they can survive without water for months. Underwatering is safer than overwatering for ZZ plants.

TEMPERATURE

ZZ plants prefer average indoor temperatures and humidity levels. They are sensitive to cold, with damage possible below 45°F. Place them away from drafts and cold air vents. Increasing humidity in dry winter months can benefit these tropical plants.

FERTILIZER

ZZ plants do not require regular fertilizing, but for optimal health, feed with an indoor formula diluted to half-strength once or twice during its active growing season.
